Alma cut the intricately detailed trim by hand. This kind of ornamentation, known as gingerbread trim, was popular on Victorian-era homes and is the reason for the structure’s nickname in later years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the year following the completion of the house, Alma married Cora Melissa Judd. Cora, born in Hoytsville, Utah in 1886, also had parents who had immigrated from England. Alma and Cora were well-known for their singing abilities and often performed at local gatherings. They had ten children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1088\" height=\"620\" src=\"http:\/\/lagoonhistory.com\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/gingerbreadhouse1934familysearch-tom-nita-geraldine.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lagoonhistory.com\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/gingerbreadhouse1934familysearch-tom-nita-geraldine.jpg 1088w, https:\/\/lagoonhistory.com\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/gingerbreadhouse1934familysearch-tom-nita-geraldine-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lagoonhistory.com\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/gingerbreadhouse1934familysearch-tom-nita-geraldine-768x438.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lagoonhistory.com\/project\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/gingerbreadhouse1934familysearch-tom-nita-geraldine-1024x584.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1088px) 100vw, 1088px\" \/>
Children of Ted & Lorea Brown with their pets next to the “Gingerbread House” in 1934.
