Lagoon announced on its social media channels on October 22nd that Jet Star 2 will close at the end of the season. The reason they provided was simply that it had reached the end of its service life. Lagoon’s social media posts did add that “a worthy successor” has been planned for the space.
Jet Star 2 is a classic Schwarzkopf coaster, which are becoming increasingly rare. Lagoon has been lucky to have two Schwarzkopf coasters (along with Colossus: The Fire Dragon) operating together for so many years. The removal of Jet Star 2 will be the first roller coaster to be taken down at Lagoon since the old wooden Wild Mouse closed in 1989.
The Jet Star 2 has operated at Lagoon for nearly 50 years after it was relocated from Spokane, Washington where it opened as part of Expo ’74.
