21 replies on “Chronological List Of Performers At Lagoon”

During the 1980’s Chris LeDoux performed almost every year. Steve Wariner and Mel McDaniel also performed. There were several country artists every year that played at Pioneer Village. There was usually a concert every couple of weeks throughout the summer. Seems like Lagoon should have records of that. Wish I could remember them all.

Why did this all stop? These concerts are amazing, I’d pay so much money to see a lot of these acts play again.

I was drummer for The Bossmen, the house band at Lagoon and The Terrace in 1967-8. Lots of dates are wrong. We opened for nearly all and many you don’t have listed. Be glad to help.

My parents were the KSOP Wranglers. I would love to see some photos or anything related to them. Please help.

My first concert was The Monkees with Jimi Hendrix, you have them listed on different dates. Does anyone know the correct date?

I double-checked my sources to make sure my listings are correct. I found a short newspaper article that confirms The Monkees played Lagoon on 17 May 1968. This has been fairly well documented since they originally intended filming a live performance there for their movie, ‘Head’. Because of logistical reasons, they ended up filming at Valley Music Hall instead and afterward, gave a short concert at Lagoon that night. I have been planning on writing an article on this.
Deseret News article
Lagoon’s ad for 30 Aug 1968 shows The Jimi Hendrix Experience appearing that night. I haven’t seen anything about them performing at Lagoon on the same bill and I’ve only heard of Jimi Hendrix performing at Lagoon once. Either way, I’m jealous you got to see them. Thanks for the message! I always welcome any information I can get.

I attended the Herman’s Hermits concert where they got top billing over The Who. Herman’s Hermits gave a great performance but after Pete Townshend destroyed his guitar onstage after The Who’s performance and blew everyone’s minds, they stole the show and everyone forgot the top billed Herman’s Hermits. An unbelievable, once in a lifetime experience for myself and those with me that evening.

I remember Fats Domino maybe 1957 or after. He was wonderful. A bad incident before he played – some young black kids who paid to see him were not allowed in. He stood up and said he wouldn’t play if they were not allowed in. They were. A great show went on. A night of remembrance.

When the Rolling Stones came in 1966, I remember there being a few other bands also, one was The Standells that did Muddy Water. I wish I knew who the other bands were.
